Why become a volunteer?
Have you ever gone to a consignment sale and felt like maybe you missed some of the best deals?  Any person who helps as little as 3 hours at the Sunflower Sprouts Sale gets to shop before any other shoppers.  This gives you the first opportunity to find the best items at the lowest prices.  For example, if there are 3 outdoor playhouses exactly the same, and one is priced at $200, another at $100 and a third at $25, you’ll have the first opportunity at buying the nicest and most inexpensive of the 3.  Not only that, become a volunteer so you can get a few hours out of the house and enjoy some fellowship time with other moms, grandmas and possibly some dads.  We try to have some fun amongst the fast paced chaos.  We typically need close to 1000 volunteer hours to make each sale a success.

Important Notice to ALL Volunteers:

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:  We have the right to do criminal checks on all volunteers.  Any person with a criminal record will not be allowed to volunteer at our sale due to the nature of our business.

Is it hard for you to come in to help but you want to be able to shop early?  Do you have a parent who is retired or family member who has extra time on their hands.   We allow someone to fulfill the hours for you, so you can shop early.  It's called teamwork, and we are all about supporting working together toward a happy outcome.  Just contact Lesley@sunflowersprouts.org and she can help you arrange.

Alternate Volunteer Opportunities/Bartering:
No time to help during the sale?  There are a limited number of opportunities to volunteer prior to the sale in advertising.  Please contact us at least 4-6 weeks prior to the sale with an area in which you are able to help us advertise by posting flyers, yard signs or distributing post cards.  Based on the help you agree to do for us will determine how many volunteer hours you can possibly receive.   We typically require at least 3 hours worth of advertising help to qualify for volunteer hours.

We will also consider bartering for services such as printing, advertising, photography and more.  We are also open to other ideas you may have.  Perhaps you know a reporter or have a connection for radio advertising?  How about a preschool, club or sports group?  Contact us with your idea.... we would love to hear it!

What you need to know when you help as a volunteer:

  • Please note that if you do not provide 7 days notice of the need to cancel your shift, or you fail to arrive for your volunteer shift, a $10 fee will be deducted from your commission check and your commission will remain at 65%.  Thank you for understanding this policy.  We love our helpers and rely upon them to make our sale successful!
  • If you sign up to fulfill two 3 hour shifts in a row but they overlap by 1/2 hour (making it 5 1/2 hours), please plan to stay 1/2 hour past your end time.
  • All volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and bring a snack/water bottle as needed.
  • Please check-in at the desk ten minutes before your work time so you can get your name tag, apron or t-shirt.  We will also explain what we need you to do during your shift.  Please let us know ahead of time of any special needs or physical limitations.
  • When your shift is done, please check out at the desk to return your name tag and apron and be marked as having completed your shift.
